Colleen began her journey to become a provider more than 30 years ago. First, she earned her Associates Degree in Nursing from Oklahoma City Community College. Colleen then pursued her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma, HSC. Afterward, she worked in hospitals, schools, home health, and state agencies.
Her passion for nursing led her to pursue a Masters of Science in Nursing, Nurse Education from the University of Oklahoma, HSC. After which, she returned to Texas and taught community and mental health nursing at Texas A&M University (WHOOP!).
“I enjoyed teaching but realized my professional passion is establishing a collaborative relationship with clients and working together on their mental health goals,” Colleen added.
To realize this professional goal, she returned to University to earn her Post-Masters Certification, PMHNP, from the University of Texas at Houston, HSC.
As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), Colleen is certified to provide initial assessments, diagnosis, and medication management as needed for mental health issues. She incorporates psychoeducation on mental health diagnoses, medications, and possible side effects. While Colleen does not provide traditional psychotherapy or direct medical care, she is able to consider your medical diagnosis, medications, and symptoms. Her extensive and advanced nursing knowledge allows her to fill a vital need for HealthPoint patients.

As you may have read on our blog, HealthPoint has partnered with Texas A&M Health Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Care Clinic. Colleen’s role is unique in that her time is shared between the partnering agencies.
She said, “The value is that I can collaborate with the team of seasoned child and adult psychiatrists at Texas A&M University and bring that expertise to you at HealthPoint. I can also consult with your Primary Care Physician at HealthPoint on managing your psychotropic medications.”
